Fishing in Mozambique

The fishing paradise of Nyati Beach Lodge

Sports fishing, fly fishing, big game fishing, deep sea fishing, angling, trolling, fishing charters, saltwater fishing, freshwater fishing, offshore fishing, spear fishing - you can do it all at Nyati Beach Lodge, Mozambique!

Fishing in the Bazaruto Archipelago

The Bazaruto Archipelago has it all - and more. Deep-sea fishing off Mozambique's coast is world class and takes place all year round. In the Bazaruto Archipelago the sailfish has become the most popular catch - and for good reasons. During optimum conditions you can expect multiple strikes - with regular double and triple strikes taking place. Fish of up to 60 kg are not an unusual sight.

Realize your wildest fishing dreams

The area around Nyati Beach Lodge is a paradise for any sports fisherman, whether it be fly fishing in the white surf along the beach for the smooth, transparent bonefish, catching a barracuda to the sound of the quiet flapping sail of a local dhow - or hunting for "big game fish" like marlin and sailfish in the darkest depths of the sea, which despite the help of horsepower and modern techniques, still give a "fight to the very end".

Big Game Fish

The largest sailfish caught in the Bazaruto Archipelago to date weighed 55kg. Fish that weigh over 1000 pounds are known as 'granders' and these can be caught deep in the Mozambique Channel off the Coast of Vilanculos and the Bazaruto Islands. The Marlin is at the top of any sports fisherman's list. Boasting the current "All African" record of a 1,298 pound black marlin, caught in November '98 in the Bazaruto Archipelago, the dream may just come true!

Tag and Release Fishing

Generally fishing is according to the "tag and release" principle with the measurement photo being the only tangible evidence of the adventure. Other deep-sea fish often seen in the area include marlin, king mackerel, broadbills, kingfish, barracuda and sharks.

State-of-the-art Fishing Equipment

Nyati Beach Lodge's own 27-foot deep-sea fishing boats take fishermen out to sea for "big game". On board you will find every modern convenience and equipment like a GPS, fish finder, VHF-radio, rods, outriggers, fighting chair and skippers with an enduring and deep knowledge of the areas.

All-year round Fishing

All year round king mackerel and numerous species of kingfish, wahoo, tuna (bonito, skipjack and yellowfin), bonefish and dorado can be caught - either using spinners or by fly fishing. There are also excellent chances for catching pomparo, stumpis, queenfish, red snapper and river salmon when fly fishing. Moreover, in the Bazaruto area you have an excellent chance of catching the large black and striped marlins especially between September and November. The peak time for kingfish is September-april, king mackerel is August-March, yellowfin-tuna is May-August and sailfish is May-September.
